Typing up your CV and hitting the send button can be daunting if you have been out of the work force for a while.\u00a0 Speaking from experience, I have put some thoughts together that may help with the transition back to work:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n During your time away from work, include any voluntary work you were involved in.\u00a0 If you were Treasurer of the P&C, Classroom Helper, Coach at the Sports club etc include it.\u00a0 Keep it brief so attention goes to your prior work experience.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Leave out home duties, everybody does them so it\u2019s easier to leave them out.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n If you have been out of work for a while (I was out for 7 years!) and are struggling to get that foot in the door, look at doing some voluntary work in the field you are interested in.\u00a0 It shows your motivation and gives you some \u2018current\u2019 experience.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n You can get out of date with your industry when your away from work. When you do get an interview, make sure you research the organisation, know the market and anything relevant to the industry.\u00a0 Research, research, research.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A great option for getting back to work is to try temp work.\u00a0 Temping is a fantastic way to return to the workforce.\u00a0 Organisations keep good temps so if you can prove your worth keeping, they will! There is also a good chance it can lead to other opportunities. You have had a chance to try out the organisation and see if it\u2019s a \u2018fit\u2019 and vice versa.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A role will come up!\u00a0Have faith, it\u2019s hard to stay positive but keep searching.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The market is vastly different from 5, 10, 15 years ago. \u00a0Sending off your CV to a handful of positions on Seek is no guarantee you will get interviews anymore.\u00a0It\u2019s a full-time job looking for work.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Be proactive.\u00a0 Register with agencies and choose them wisely. Look for agencies with the roles you are interested in and build rapport with consultants, they will remember you. Build a Seek Profile and create a LinkedIn account.\u00a0 These are all free resources you can use to search for work.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A role will come up \u2026., be patient and most importantly, be confident and stay positive this will keep you in the right frame of mind for interviews.
